Sneaky D's ....

American Roadhouse Makeover

My Review

February 8, 2014

Apparently I incorrectly identified Bar Rescue as the TV Program that remodeled Sneaky D's. I assumed that was correct based on the many rumors that were floating around and you what happens when you assume.... Thanks to my Biker friend "Snail" for correcting me!

After doing some internet research on the new American Roadhouse show... I was surprised to see the controversy about the star of the show "Chuck Zito"..

Charles "Chuck" Carmine Zito, Jr. (born March 1, 1953), is an American actor, amateur boxer, martial artist, celebrity bodyguard, stuntman, former boxing trainer and former president of the New York chapter of the Hells Angels.

The following links will give you some in site into the American Roadhouse and Chuck Zito... You can form your own opinions.

Also I learned that the main Sponsor of the show is "The Paint Kings" a painting company..... That explains all the new paint... instead of remodeling that was done!

Second... Look

February 15, 2014

Well ..I was in the neighborhood again so I stopped it to take another look at the remodeling job.

I noticed that the rope lights under the bar are really not rope lights, but a more permanent type of LED light... Much nicer lights and they are up out of the way...I like them.

Now the bad stuff.... I thought they replaced the ceiling.. But they did not ..all they did was paint the old suspended ceiling.. many of the tiles are warped and don't fit right ..some are hanging down.. obviously, the Paint Company sponsor
controlled this too!

Now the really ugly stuff... The Men's Restroom... It's bad...It's ugly... Nothing has been done to it for many, many years. It's scary to even have to use this place. My opinion has always been.... if the bar or restaurant don't take good care of the restrooms they probably don't take care of the other necessary things.  ( I didn't see the Ladies room..good luck with that one.)

I can't wait to see the American Roadhouse program in April and see how they present this place. I believe we're about to see the magic of post production and editing of a TV program and all the BS slender in action!

Sneaky D's recently changed owners and was remodeled by American Roadhouse a new Travel Channel Bar Remodeling program to air in April 2014.

So one day when I was out and about and close by, I stopped in to check it out. The TV program will probably air some time in the future.

First the good stuff..... Overall I like what they did. I like the new sign out front and the new floor and ceiling inside. It appears they kept some of the walls and just painted them and everything is pretty much in the same place as it was, including the pool table room. They took the old counter top bar down that was around the stage area and replaced it with the bar high tables... a big improvement! They covered the walls behind the bar with a white staggered block type of what appears to be plastic panels. An improvement ... But a little cheesy looking (My opinion).. some people will probably like it more than I do !

But...... To me the most impressive thing is the new bar top. It appears to be Translucent Crystal allowing the rope light under the front of the bar shine thru... Very cool effect ! This is the highlight of the remodeling job.

Now the down side... Although they replaced the inside lights to match the outside front lights, which is nice ... when they took the old neon sign down out front they never patched the holes or painted them. .. so there's  holes in the wall that really stand out and look bad... It ruins the whole outside front remodeling job! They could have fixed this for a $5.00 pail of Stucco and some white paint. They still have the old pole sign out front, you know, the one where they display their specials and what bands are playing and it is UGLY ... ruining the whole outside effect! They need to upgrade this sign.

Now for the rest of the outside.... They moved some of the new style tables and chairs outside, strung a few light bulb strings and put some planters in to form something of a patio. Now it was raining and cool the day I was there, so the new tables and chairs , which have wood seats, are getting soaked in the rain... WTF!! They at least could have coved the patio area with some kind of a roof... which leads me to believe they must have been on a reduced budget when they did this job !!

The thing I was hoping to see was some high tech, new style bar equipment.. you know the new type tapers and drink makers that you see on some of the other shows. There was none...same ole beer cabinet, in the same place and nothing else new that I saw.

What I did notice and it could have always been this way since the new owners took over... was their prices. I got a Jim Beam and coke with some lime ...my usual drink..it was $4.50..... In my opinion that's not good for a neighborhood bar. I can drink cheaper on the beach. Beer.... I'm not sure what they did with that ... probably about the same as before since everybody was drinking beer.

So there you have it....  a everyday kind of remodeling job with a few highlights..... Not what I expected from a Big Time TV program..... But nicer then it was....
